If you want to influence the creation of the object which should be defined by the dataobjecttypename property then you'll have to process the On XXX event.

in other words, when you do that you're influencing the creation of the object on which the methods defined by the XXXmethod properties are executed.

The code runs fine but the row is still in an 'update' mode.

The business object is set and accessed using the Object Data Source Event Args. By adding an event handler delegate to handle the Object Data Source View.

Object Creating event, you can create an instance of the business object in custom code instead of the Object Data Source performing the instantiation.

As mentioned above due to different structure , certain fields needs to omitted before executing the Update method.

I want to initialise my object to load all the old values from the object (rather than a blank object as Object Data Source defaults to). At present I have a kludge to get the data from the Details View control directly - is this the right method?

My update function is Update(Obj As Test, original_Obj As Test). *if* I could avoid the default constructor, I could pre-build Obj from the database using ID=1, so that P1="A" and P2="X".

The Object Data Source Event Args class is used in the Object Data Source View.

The user clicks edit, edits the record, clicks update and it runs my code.
